Many have expressed an interest in the Hindi Ki Duniya - Pehle Kadam early learning programme designed for children for whom Hindi is not a spoken language (such as those in South India). This kit, authored by Chandrika Mathur of Rishi Valley, is no longer available from Scholastic. read more

NCERT and CBSE to Introduce Indian Crafts as a Subject for Std. 11 & 12

This is really good news, and what is even better is that the subject can be chosen by students of any stream - even Science and Commerce (in addition to the Arts stream of course).

NCERT's Department of Education in Arts and Aesthetics (DEAA) is working to prepare the curriculum so that it can be offered from 2008 onwards, with the help of a list given by NID (National Institute of Design) which lists out the dying handicrafts of India. read more

Patriotism in the Curriculum

I was just wondering how much of our curriculum is devoted to patriotism? How many children know about the heores of war? How many do a follow up to see what the families are going through? Those who have fought and died while fighting, do we know about them? Do schools tell stories of their valour? To tell stories could kindle a feeling of inquisitiveness, to know more about those people who have actually left their homes, and loved ones to be at the border fighting and dying for us. read more

One more great curriculum resource from UNESCO on interdisciplinary teaching of science for upper elementary and middle school, through looking at day to day issues. The STL Resource kit is divided into 26 modules that are available as individual downloads (pdf files) or the complete kit as one pdf file.
