Re-defining discipline by Meeta Mohanty

This paper is inspired by the teachings of Ms. Namita Ranganathan, Reader, CIE, DU.

Discipline in Latin means ‘to teach or comprehend’. However the schools dictate a different connotation of discipline i.e. to symbolize conformity/ punishments. I chanced upon this video, and was taken to the content matter, which talked about how much of change we as teachers can bring in the lives of children by being creative in our teaching practices, as well as encouraging it among the younger generation. Teachers need to think how much of creativity we are nourishing among children.It directly relates to the atmosphere in school. Most schools in India lack a plan whereby teachers could incorporate their own personal teaching ways. read more

based on my experience over the last one month i'm trying  to convert my learning experience into a learning experience for my students...check it out at www.historicalmind.com...many of the issues raised by anand, varni have been my concern too and i have tried to address them in my teaching...not successfully always...becomes quite frustrating too...my blog (yes...my entries are quite long and tiresome i guess) but have dealt with many of these questions...pls continue to post ur views...bouquets and brickbats! :-)

My son 3 yrs is being homeschooled and I seek inputs into supporting his learning in Chess and Sanskrit. Also asI have identified him as a Visual and Kinesthetic Learner any refrence sites with activities for such a kid.

I am homeschooling my son now 3. As any other child...he loves music too! i picked up a bunch of hindi song video DVD. i have ended up teaching him so much beyond music. London Bridge, Big Ben.....a song from Baghban. Toy Train from Shimla.....Parineeta. Everymoring he identifies the song with these titles and i am happy. As a child i loved the rhyme that appeared on DD ...Ek Titli, anek titliyan.....look for it on Utube.com....download it My son has loved this classic piece too!

I watched a TV program on Times Now this past weekend titled "Youth Diaries: When School is Fun". This particular episode was about alternative education and home schooling. read more

We run a school for tribal children in Southern Rajasthan and are intent on providing them with a genuinely high quality education that's relevant to an underprivileged rural population. We draw inspiration from Maria Montessori, Steiner etc. and wish for a child led and centred approach to education.
