If you have not seen this already, The Story of Stuff is a must-see amazing, entertaining, informative 20 minute animation video by Annie Leonard.

Curriculum units on UN's Cyberschoolbus

Anjum recently posted this fantastic resource here called Cyberschoolbus on the UN website.

I was exploring the Cyberschoolbus site and thought I'd highlight some amazing ready-to-use curriculum units that have been shared on that website. Some are aimed at middle and high school (ages 12-18) while others are for ages 10-18. read more

India Water Portal (also has a Kids Section)

Hello!

I was doing a search on teaching resources for 'Water' and found this informative portal called "India Water Portal". There is a lot of information on this site about things like Rain Water Harvesting, Watersheds, urban water anf ground water issues, and also "Data and Resources" like meteorological data, statistics, policies etc.

It was nice to see a kids section (I have provided the link), but none of the links on this page worked - maybe it is still under construction? read more

Researchers in the US have developed a Science curriculum that takes advantage of the things that interest high school students i.e. drugs, sex and rock 'n' roll, well, drugs mainly. "Brain-popping" Animations for various subjects

BrainPop is an "Animated Educational Site for Kids for use in Science, Social Studies, English, Math, Arts & Music, Health, and Technology". [A recent addition - BrainPopJr. is aimed at children in grades K-3.]

There are scores of animations that can be shown to kids, each followed by a quiz (which tests the factual knowledge) based on the material covered in the animation.

Unfortunately, it is not all free (they do have about 10% of the animations in each category available for free), and one needs a paid subscription to view all the animations. read more

Scientific and Technological Literacy - UNESCO Resource Kit

One more great curriculum resource from UNESCO on interdisciplinary teaching of science for upper elementary and middle school, through looking at day to day issues. The STL Resource kit is divided into 26 modules that are available as individual downloads (pdf files) or the complete kit as one pdf file. The modules deal with issues such as Cars & Energy, Fuels for the Future, Managing Water Resources, Understanding Bio-diversity, Investigating Pollution - to name a few. read more

Teaching & Learning for a Sustainable Future - Interdisciplinary Curriculum from UNESCO

A fantastic resource for all teachers!

This is a free teacher education program that trains teachers on how to teach and build interdisciplinary curriculum around the very important theme of "sustainablity". It is a very well-laid out (with a color-coded design) and content-rich website. I would urge all to browse through it as a source for curriculum ideas and teaching & learning strategies (which are generic to any subject), even if you don't do the complete program. read more

Water or Coke/Pepsi?

Many parents and teachers wonder how and what to tell kids about the ill-effects of drinking carbonated soft drinks such as Coca Cola, Pepsi, Mirinda, 7-up and others. I came across this link and am copying the points that are worth noting. The facts are astonishing. read more
