Hindi Poems and Rhymes

Found this site with some classic hindi nursery rhymes for pre-school and young school children.

Also located this book called Shishu Kavita by Vinod Chandra Pandey 'Vinod' published in 2001 by Lokbharti Prakashan and Press (Allahabad). It has some very simple and nice 4-line poems for young children, which could be used by teachers in early Hindi classes in school too. read more

YouTube Video on 'Ek Chidiya' - short film on concepts of EK & ANEK (One & Many)

In the process of checking out Varni's video link on YouTube for "School Chale Hum", I also found a link to the lovely film 'Ek Chidiya' that used to air on Doordarshan (in the BC ("before cable") days). It's a simple film that explains a powerful concept to children. 

Teachers need only a computer and internet access to show this film. read more

Another Magazine by National Geographic

Be on the lookout for this new magazine for the younger readers.Published by the National Geographic Society, which already publishes so many more quality magazines, this one will be called 'National Geographic Young Explorer'. The contents will be aiming at improving childrens' knowledge of science, social studies and geography. I am sure the seven issues in a year will be a rich resource for teachers and children. read more

Starfall-Learning to read is fun!

This is a wonderful site where children will have fun learning to read. It is interactive, attractive and very appealing to young children, with colorful graphics. The site is very easy to navigate, even for young children. It focuses on letter/sound recognition, word decoding as well as reading comprehension along with phonics games and some wonderful online stories that children can read along. It has some fun cartoon characters featured in the stories and other activities. read more

Tangram alphabet

I noticed that there was a link to the "toys from trash" section of Arvind Gupta's website somewhere in the resource section here.

I came across this tangram alphabet activity on his website that seems quite interesting and fun. I am adding it as an attachment to this post. Note that it is quite easy to make a set of tangram pieces out of some hard cardboard if you don't have a plastic or wooden set.
