Being in Kerala now, I was interested to read the posts by Shuchi etc., on FOSS. I wish Bangalore would wake up to the possibilities inherent in following a dual policy - one for teachers and another for students, as to how computers, software, internet surfing etc., should or could be used. While I am all for putting some necessary curbs on students in schools, because they are minors, I believe teachers should be given maximum freedom, as they are responsible adults, in deciding what sites to visit, using chat, downloading, installing software they think convenient and so on and so forth. The thing that interests me is that while Kerala seems to be on the right track , Bangalore seems to be on the capitalist track, at least in its international schools. Too much dependance on MS and heavy security efforts lead to the cramping/clamping down of/on the style of some teachers who are tech driven. In Kerala while chat is looked down on and porn too definitely , almost anything else goes. In Bangalore, teachers are suspicious of anything and everything ,including Second Life! MAYBE TOO MUCH KNOWLEDGE LEADS TO FEAR RATHER THAN INNOVATION , IS ALL ONE CAN SAY.
