"Metric Mela" AID Bangalore (by Satish Kumar Sundaram)

AID Bangalore conducted Metric Mela, a fun event involving kids, parents and other adults at the Minerva Circle tuition center on July 22, 2007. Preparations for the event had started a month ago where AID volunteers (Balaji, Senthil, Pushpa, Sathish and others) met with the kids a few times to decide on the flow of event and logistics.The event basically consisted of four booths one each demonstrating measurement of weight, length, volume and time. There was also a registration booth where the participant was given a chit with his/her name and a registration number on it. read more

Deconstructing the science monolith

Right, and now you’re thinking, deconstruct what? Monolith? In science? What’s he talking ‘bout?

Let me explain.

A monolith is a single, giant block of stone, especially a pillar or a monument. More appropriate for us, a monolith is massive and indivisible organization or institution.

What is 'science education'? (and some lesson plan links to entice you into reading :D )

What does science education mean? Perhaps the first elog in the topic science education should lead to a discussion on 'science education' itself. A specific question that we could use to structure this discussion could be:

'What should good science education hope to achieve?'
