NCERT and CBSE to Introduce Indian Crafts as a Subject for Std. 11 & 12

This is really good news, and what is even better is that the subject can be chosen by students of any stream - even Science and Commerce (in addition to the Arts stream of course).

NCERT's Department of Education in Arts and Aesthetics (DEAA) is working to prepare the curriculum so that it can be offered from 2008 onwards, with the help of a list given by NID (National Institute of Design) which lists out the dying handicrafts of India. read more

I came across this article written a few years ago by Chandrika Mathur (a teacher at Rishi Valley school) - Teaching and Learning Hindi as a 'Second' Language: Exploring a new Terrain, while searching for ideas on how to teach Hindi to kids in India in regions where Hindi is not the spoken language.
